Terminology

Scratch light(kicker) is a light that is placed in between a back light and a side light. Some might say it is a 3/4 back light, but that’s confusing unless I show it on a diagram. Basically it is a light placed not quite fully behind your subject that glances off the cheek of your subject, figuratively scratching their cheek. It is usually not as high as a back light. Some people call it a greaser. Hope that helps?
